How do you verify an autograph for authenticity?

Question by mojopin79: How do you verify an autograph for authenticity?
I have an autograph of a very famous sports person, and I am considering selling it. How would I know if I was getting a genuine autograph and not a forgery? The particular autograph I am speaking of would not be difficult to forge as it is quite simple.

Answer by ttpawpaw
The best way is to have a picture of the person signing it while you are also holding it. Since it is easy to forge, how do you know it is real? Unless it is backed by a certificate of authenticity from a reputable company it will be suspect. You also have to be suspect about any certificate of authenticity. How do I know that this is really you asking the question.pp

I am not a collector, but have something that has been autographed by a famous sports star and I want to have it authenticated in case I decide to sell it.
Is there a company that is prominently known as being better than others, amoung collectors?

There are tons on the internet and they all say they are the best. How do I know who is legit and who is full of it?

Thanks.

Baseball Hall of Fame HOF Auto Autograph Pc Collection card

default Baseball Hall of Fame HOF Auto Autograph Pc Collection card

Updated September 2011. I have at least 15 more autographs that I have added to my collection since this video. I will have to update this, but in the meantime: I HAVE MADE A WEBSITE!!!!! Please visit and comment sites.google.com Hi all. Just wanted to show off my baseball autograph collection. I started it a few years back and it has grown substantially. I am focusing on Hall of Fame players, but also members of the 3000 hit, 300 win, 500 hr, and 3000 k clubs. The first 2/3 of the video is stricktly HOF’ers, but switches to non hall of famers. 90% are in my opinion future HOF’ers. At some point I did collect game used cards, but sold. At the end of the video, I have some gu cards as I am starting to build it back up. I also have a Thome patch collection, focusing on prime patches. Thanks for watching. Feel free to comment. All cards are authenticated by manufacturer or PSA/DNA with the exception of Pat Gillick. All cards are in a new magnetic holder w/ a team bag around it and placed in a box. Figured YouTube would be a nice way to show it off.

have you ever sent a letter to a sports team and got an autograph?

Question by MICHAEL R: have you ever sent a letter to a sports team and got an autograph?

Best answer:

Answer by White Sox
Yes I do it all the time and I get about 30% back. I’ve gotten Juan Pierre, Dan Wheeler, Pat Neshek, lots of others. If you want to find any addresses, just e-mail me. I even send some to the homes of players and they can get back!

How much does a personalized autograph differ in value from a nondescript one?

Question by wsdmskr825: How much does a personalized autograph differ in value from a nondescript one?
I have many autographs in my collection, most sports related. I have Wilt Chamberlain on a NBA basketball and Michael Jordan on a copy of the original Nike Jordan 8×10. The thing is, they’re all autographed to me personally. I’m not looking to sell them, I’m just curious. I’ve seen Wilt Chamberlain ball valued at thousands of dollars, same with Jordan. Are mine worth thousands? They’re all in excellent condition, clearly legible, and protected. Well, except for the Wilt ball, that’s just up on top of my closet. They’re just all autographed to me personally.

if someone has the same name as you then you have nothing to worry about. otherwise, it’s just a crock too anyone else. unless you got famous. but we both know that will never happen.
